Fair Isle Books Foraging Walk and Tasting
On September 24 I joined my friend and neighbor Casey Dahl to lead a foraging walk and tasting on Folk Tree Farm, which he runs with partner Shawn Murray. Casey is a lifelong Wisconsinite and very knowledgable about local edible plants, among other things. We had a great time walking and talking about wild cherries, autumn olives, wild mustard (look at that beast in the photo!), feral apples, and

more. I read a bit from Eating Wild Japan, and then we all nibbled on jams made from autumn olive, blackberries, wild grapes, and wild cherries; spreadable cheese infused with carrot seeds; braised wild mustard with garlic, and other delicacies offered up by this lovely island.
