WINIFRED BIRD

writer + translator

  • Writer's pictureWinifred Bird

I spoke with Bridgitte Jackson-Buckley about Eating Wild Japan (and life in general). This is probably my favorite podcast conversation ever. Bridgitte, who runs the black woman-owned online bookstore Little Visioneers, is such a curious, warm interviewer, I felt both at home and challenged to think differently about topics I've talked *a lot* about (which makes sense given the name of her podcast...). The podcast date is July 26, 2021. Watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6qnCz3_Awg

Join me at 10:00 AM JST on May 23 for a slideshow and conversation with Jeanette Fukao for the Society of Writers, Editors, and Translators, a Japan-centered organization that I've enjoyed being a member of for a number of years. This online event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. After a slide show of plants, dishes, and other images from my travels for Eating Wild Japan, I'll talk about the technical aspects of creating the book, from the research phase to the writing, publishing and promotion. Jeanette Fukao is an artist, poet, writer, and teacher based in Shiga prefecture. Find more info and a link for registration on the SWET website. (Image shows a sansai feast cooked by Reiko Hanaoka, featured in the book.)
